North East Arts Touring (Deveron) present 'Mungo Park', direct from the Edinburgh Fringe on September 1st at 19:30 in Portsoy Church Hall.

Tragi-comic, theatrically daring Scottish-Danish co-production examining anew Europe’s colonial legacy through the idealistic 18th century Scottish explorer’s adventures and misadventures. Mungo Park led expeditions to West Africa to chart the River Niger and investigate tales of vast wealth. Featuring Matthew Zajac as Park. Dogstar Theatre Company (Scotland) and Mungo Park Arts Centre (Denmark) present Mungo Park – Travels in the Interior of Africa by Martin Lyngbo, director, and Thor Bjorn Krebs.

Echoes and Traces - Nobilis Humilis

Echoes and Traces - Nobilis Humilis4th Sep


A world premiere concert tour of new choral works, developed in response to a 900 year old plain song fragment from Orkney that celebrates St Magnus: Nobilis Humilis. This text and melody is extremely special, being one of the oldest surviving examples of Scottish music. New works by eight composers will be performed by the choir Cappella Nova.

Please note admission to Duff House is included in the ticket price.

The Atsuo Hukuda exhibition is a rare opportunity  to discover more about the form of traditional Japanese painting technique, as well as the artist himself and how Duff House, its architecture and design helped inspire him.

This exhibition is included in the Duff House admission price.

North East Open Studios 2016

Formed in 2003, the North East Open Studios (NEOS) is an award winning collective of artists, makers and designers based in the North East of Scotland. We provide an informal contact network for artists and makers alike, to help the public access the wealth of creative talent throughout the North East of Scotland.

NEOS 2016 Event features 232 artists, makers and designers. A wide range of work will be on show from painting to printmaking, textiles, ceramics, photography and many more. This year we have added 2 New Disciplines of Heritage Crafts to encourage and celebrate our Creative History, and Digital Art to embrace new Technology and it’s creative use.

The open studios event serves to engage wider audiences in all aspects of art to grow small-scale art and craft business in the north east of Scotland, and to provide a cohesive network of professional artists and makers.

Fraserburgh’s September Super Saturday celebrates Aberdeenshire’s rich and varied heritage from its fertile farming fields to its rugged coastline and beyond. 

Get close up and personal with some livestock and enjoy the Shetland Pony display. If you like it a little wilder the Ranger Service will be on hand with lots of information and activities including their nest box kits. Marine Lab will have some of our more exotic species from our coastline on display. The history of it all can be traced at the Heritage Centre’s stall and KIMO will be on hand to show us how we can keep our seas safe and pollution free for the future. 

Whether you are a meat eater or a fish lover there’s lots to taste and try with some new foody additions and to work it all off why not try the new bungee run before rounding your day off with some great entertainment from local stars of Global Rock, the Broch Drama Group and Lighthouse Rock.

Fraserburgh’s Super Saturday is happening from 10am to 3.30pm on the 10th of September with the enthusiastic support of Aberdeenshire Council. It will be Super!!


  • The Marine Lab will be there with a selection of unusual fish and lots of information.

  • KIMO are the local authorities International Environmental Organisation who are involved in many projects such as Pollution free and safe seas and the Fishing for Litter project.

  • Aberdeenshire Council’s Ranger Service will come along giving lots of information and with wood cookies for children to decorate and take home with them for free. They will also have nest box kits for people to make at £5 per box.

  • Northfield Animal Haven will be attending and will have a couple of Shetland Ponies and some sheep that are used to people and good with kids.

  • Fraserburgh Surf Life Saving Club will be here and the Fraserburgh Heritage Centre will be bringing a selection of boats and promoting all that happens in the centre.

  • Food stalls including McIntosh, Taste of the Wild, Spanish Churros and the Steak and Grill company from Peterhead.

  • Bungee Run

  • Pupils from Fraserburgh Academy and the highly successful Global Rock challenge will be performing some of their repertoire and some of the cast from the Broch Drama Group will be singing some songs from their upcoming production of "Annie". The local Bugle Band and Lighthouse Rock band will provide the rest of the entertainment.

  • Fraserburgh Rotary Club will run our Tasting Gazebo with products supplied by local businesses.

Examine a unique Rembrandt etching that has been rediscovered in the Print Room of the Scottish National Gallery.

The print is a portrait of the Amsterdam preacher Jan Cornelis Sylvius of 1633.

Doors open day gives you access to hundreds of fascinating buildings across Scotland. Every weekend in September you can explore places that are normally closed to the public. Some open up once a year, some just once in a lifetime. Discover the architecture, places and spaces right on your doorstep or explore a new part of the country.

In Aberdeenshire, this year's celebrations are taking place in the Garioch and Formartine Areas on Saturday 17th September.  Each event has its own opening times so please refer to the specific locations details.

There is an exciting and varied programme with 22 properties taking part, many of which are doing so for the first time.  There will be tours, exhibitions and refreshments at many of the venues hosted by Doors Open Day volunteers.

As well as the properties opening their doors, there will be two historic walking tours running this year; one at Turriff at 12.30pm and an evening walking tour around the Haddo Estate at 7.30pm.  Here are some of the highlights:

* A stunning castle opening their doors for free at Delgatie

* Two Masonic Lodges that are not normally open to the public - you are invited to learn more about the history and current practice of the Masons.

* Take a tour of a contemporary private house set within the historic landscape of the Wardhouse Estate.

* The newly acquired Ellon Castle Gardens - until now have always been privately owned and rarely open to the public.

* Discover what took place inside a Mort House and learn more about the contraptions villagers in Aberdeenshire employed to deter grave robbers.

* Visit the serene Elyza Fraser mausoleum, recently acquired by the Friends of Elyza Fraser who have plans for its restoration and repair.

* Discover six beautiful Aberdeenshire churches; including the Tiffany Window at Fyvie Church and Sir Ninian Comper's stained glass windows at All Saints, Whiterashes.

Beach Watch - Banff

On the weekend when beach litter surveys are happening all over the world, why not come along and do your bit for your local beach? Organised by the Marine Conservation Society in Britain, this annual event monitors litter found on beaches and uses the information collected to improve the state of our beaches for people and wildlife. Join in the UK’s biggest beach clean and help to remove and record the rubbish from a beach near you. A fun and rewarding morning for all the family. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Gloves and rubbish bags will be provided.
