Deveron Fishing Festival aims to net more anglers
Following last year's successful inaugural event, preparations are well underway for the 2nd Deveron Fishing Festival from 29th April to 2nd May 2012. The main organiser - the Deveron, Bogie and Isla Rivers Charitable Trust - aims to attract more salmon anglers from the UK and abroad to a river known as "Scotland's Hidden Gem." In 2011, it created a huge boost to the local economy when more than 200 anglers took advantage of free fishing on 19 of the river's top beats. Most of the accommodation in the area was fully booked months in advance, and retail outlets saw a dramatic upturn for what is traditionally a quieter time of the year. The format of the festival has been changed this year; many of the 140 anglers who have been successful in the ballot for the free fishing over three days available this year have paid for three more days so that they get a full week's fishing. The event will open with a trade fair. Turriff Tackle and Trophies is the letting agent for the river's beats. 90% of the registered anglers are from far afield.
