Orchard planned to mark Jubilee

A new orchard could be created at Banff Castle to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.  Banff Community Association, which runs the venue, aims to plant 10 fruit trees initially, then encourage further planting in the grounds.  The trees will be introduced in the garden, lining an old carriage track which used to link the site to Castle Street.  Banff and Macduff Community Council has agreed to provide a selection of apple, plum and pear trees.  The aim is to encourage locals and groups to plant further fruit trees in the extensive castle grounds to border pathways and to then harvest the fruit.
