Shanty at Boat Festival
Dozens of youngsters from across the north-east are working on a song to launch this weekend's Scottish Traditional Boat Festival. Around 50 primary pupils from throughout Banffshire have teamed up with local songwriters to put together their own sea shanty, and will perform their Big Boat Song at the festival's opening night concert in a marquee set up at Portsoy's Wally Green. The children have been rehearsing for several weeks with members of the Creative Scotland Youth Music Initiative. The songs written thus far have ranged from ballads about fairies and trips of the zoo to learning the penny whistle. There's even a song called It's A Long Way to Portsoy Co-op.
