Portsoy's Skifettes make debut on world stage

Portsoy's all-woman rowing crew - the Skifettes - are making their debut on the world stage this week at Ullapool in Wester Ross.

The Skiffettes and their self-built St Ayles skiff - "Soy Quine" - are testing their skills and speed in the Inaugural World St Ayles Skiff Championships.  They join 32 vessels from around the world and around 800 competitors.  The championships have drawn boats and crews from Scotland, England, the Netherlands, Australia and the USA.

This will be the biggest gathering of skiffs anywhere in the UK, and Loch Broom is a spectacular setting.

A number of activities are also available onshore, including ceilidhs, traditional music performances, sampling local seafood and taking part in arts and crafts sessions.

Further information on the championships is available at www.skiffieworlds.com
