Whitehills Marina becomes first in the UK to receive gold anchor award
Whitehills Marina has been awarded a Gold Anchor from The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA), and is the UK's first self-assessed One Gold Anchor marina. The accolade follows the marina winning in the Grampian Awards for Business Enterprise and the Alick Buchanan Smith Spirit of Enterprise Award in 2004.
With 40 berths, Whitehills boasts a full marina with a few visitor berths for those sailors looking to sail along the coast to Inverness, down the Caledonian Canal and on to the sailing waters of the west coast of Scotland. The marina also attracts many Scandinavian sailors.
The recently opened fish restaurant, The Galley, has been a popular addition to its facilities, which also include a crew lounge and kitchen, washing machines and tumble-dryers.
To receive the award, marinas have to demonstrate that they are constructed to be secure, built to be operated to a satisfactory standard with suitable facilities and offer a minimum standard of customer service, as well as confirming that they are compliant with all regulatory requirements.
To celebrate the award, the marina team has painted a large gold anchor in pride of place at the marina entrance.
