Award-winning author launches latest novel in Banff

Award-winning author Stuart MacBride is launching his latest novel - "The Missing and the Dead" - at Banff Academy.  The event will include a talk and a book signing.  Tickets (free) are available at Macduff Library, or by calling the Library on 01261 833289.

The book is the latest instalment in the career of MacBride's jaundiced hero, Detective Inspector Logan MacRae.  It is set in Banffshire, where the body of a young girl is washed up on a beach, sparking a murder investigation.  The novel features many local references, and the front cover features a depiction of Tarlair's open air swimming pool.  The synopsis reads:  "One mistake can cost you everything...  When you catch a twisted killer, there should be a reward, right?  What acting Detective Inspector Logan MacRae gets instead is a 'development opportunity' out in the depths of rural Aberdeenshire.  Welcome to divisional policing - catching drug dealers, shop lifters, vandals and the odd escaped farm animal.  Then a little girl's body is washed up just outside the sleepy town of Banff, kicking off a massive man hunt.  The major investigation team is up from Aberdeen, wanting answers, and they don't care who they trample over to get them.  Logan's got enough on his plate keeping B Division together, but DCI Steel wants him back on her team.  As his old colleagues stomp around the countryside, burning bridges, Logan gets dragged deeper and deeper into the investigation.  One thing is clear:  there are dangerous predators lurking in the wilds of Aberdeenshire, and not everyone is going to get out of this alive..."

Stuart MacBride describes the Banffshire Coast as very dramatic, the perfect setting for a crime novel and one of his favourite bits of Scotland as well.  For more information on the author, visit:  http://bit.ly/1CovEMo
