Plans for Fraserburgh Super Saturdays Festive fun day are finally being unwrapped and organisers say it’s going to be a fun-filled event for everyone.
The local street market will take place on Saturday December 10th and, Fraserburgh Super Saturdays co-ordinator Leona Findlay says organisers have a jam packed programme of events in store for visitors, she said: “The event is held on Saltoun Square and Broad Street and most of the street will be lined with local stallholders selling a huge variety of products, gift ideas, food items and crafts. There will be some well-known stallholders attending but we have also attracted some new ones too.
“I’m delighted to announce that Buckie based fish and chip van, The Codfather, will also be attending our event. Colin Halley, owner of The Codfather, has recently returned from Monte Carlo where he served fish caught and supplied by the Lovie family from Foinavon Fish based in Fraserburgh, to the rich and famous. So it will be a great opportunity for locals to sample some of Colin’s famous fish and chips.
“We have also secured some new mobile eateries including The Chilli Thaigher from Old Meldrum, the Little Black Coffee van who will be serving up a range of coffees and snacks and Ellon based Aberdeenshire Larder will also be making its debut appearance at the festive fun day. A Taste of the Wild, The Steak and Grill Company and Peterhead Fish Company will be making a return to the Super Saturdays in December.
Local businesses are also getting into the festive spirit of things and will be offering visitors excellent deals on the day.
Leona added: “Visitors to the Super Saturdays won’t be disappointed with the packed programme of events we have in store for them. Santa will be arriving to the Broch in style by means of the RNLI lifeboat at 10.45am where he will then jump in his sleigh and make his way up to Broad Street where he will be piped in by the Fraserburgh Royal British Legion Pipe Band before meeting all the local children. All proceeds from the Santa’s Grotto will be donated to The RNLI.
“Throughout the day locals will also be treated to a dance performance by local dance group KDance, music by Fraserburgh duo Killer Heels, Christmas carols from the Broch Drama Group and a brass band performance from the Salvation Army Band. A lot of work has gone on to make the Super Saturdays as successful as they are, but none of it would happen without the hard work and dedication of the strong team of volunteers and business owners who are determined to breathe life back into the town centre. Without them events like this wouldn’t happen. We are keeping everything crossed for a dry day, but if the weather does take a turn for the worse we have a back-up plan in place so the event will go ahead regardless.”
Fraserburgh Super Saturdays will also feature a disco dome, a tasting gazebo featuring food samples provided by local businesses, children’s entertainment and Bobs Buddies will also be there on the day with his feathered friends.
The festive fun kicks off at 10am until 3.30pm and everyone is welcome to attend.
Super Saturdays is a partnership project, involving the local community, Aberdeenshire Council and Fraserburgh Development Trust.
Following the initial pilot scheme of four events held in 2013, the community project secured funding from Fraserburgh Regeneration Strategy Group for a program of events to deliver six themed events each year. Next year’s events will take place on 13 May, 10th June, 8 July, 12 August, 9th September and 9th December.
