Plans for this year’s Fraserburgh Super Saturdays are well under way with lots of new and exciting attractions in store for visitors
Plans for this year’s Fraserburgh Super Saturdays are well under way with lots of new and exciting attractions in store for visitors.
The first Super Saturdays event of the year will take place on 13th May with the theme being ‘Fraserburgh Celebrates’ and will showcase local entertainers Tribal Mutiny Belly Dancers, Fraserburgh singers Killer Heels and musical entertainers The Broch Drama Group.
Well-known children’s entertainer – Artie Trezise, co-founder and performer with the legendary Singing Kettle, will be entertaining the young and old with songs and stories from his new solo show Artie’s Tartan Tales.
Artie will perform two shows on the day in the Old Parish Church.
Fraserburgh Super Saturdays first event of the year will also feature a wealth of local stallholders selling hot and cold food, gift ideas for the home and garden, sweet treats, crafts plus much more.
Fraserburgh Super Saturdays coordinator, Leona Findlay said: “We are kicking off the year with a fun-packed programme which will have something to entertain everyone. We are delighted to welcome Artie to the Super Saturday’s and we’re sure he is going to be a huge attraction with everyone. The Old Parish Church has kindly allowed us to use the church as the venue for the show so it’s great that the church is getting involved with our community-led event.
“We are looking forward to welcoming back many popular stallholders this year but are also excited to welcome some new stallholders along too. We have a few surprises in store for visitors to the Super Saturdays in May which I’m sure they won’t want to miss – especially Star Wars fans.”
Premier Inflatables will also be attending Super Saturdays throughout the year with bouncy castles and slides.
Fraserburgh Super Saturday’s is a series of themed outdoor street markets aimed at encouraging families to spend the day in Fraserburgh town centre supporting local businesses, stallholders, clubs and charities.
The event is a partnership project involving the local community, Aberdeenshire Council and Fraserburgh Development Trust and was initially set up in 2013 to increase the footfall in the town centre in a bid to help the local businesses to thrive.
Following the initial pilot scheme of four events held in 2013, the community project secured funding from Fraserburgh Regeneration Strategy Group for a programme of events to deliver six themed events each year.
Super Saturdays takes place on Saltoun Square from 10am until 3.30pm. This year’s events will be held on May 13th, June 10th, July 8th, August 12th, September 9th and December 9th.
