FRASERBURGH will be a hive of activity this weekend as Super Saturdays kicks off its first community-led event of the Summer holidays.

FRASERBURGH will be a hive of activity this weekend as Super Saturdays kicks off its first community-led event of the Summer holidays.

The theme for the Aberdeenshire Council funded project, which will be held on July 8th, is Get Fit Fraserburgh and will provide local clubs and groups with a platform to showcase their talents and attract new members.

Super Saturdays steering group has an action packed day in store for visitors including the launch of a fun run for school children which is being supported by Fraserburgh Running Club and sponsored by Fraserburgh Vintage Car Rally, coordinator Leona Findlay explained: “If you’re looking for something to do with the kids this weekend that won’t break the bank then Fraserburgh is the place to go. Super Saturdays steering group is continually striving to come up with new ideas that will attract families to the town centre.

“Running is a very popular sport in Fraserburgh and so it’s great that Super Saturdays and Fraserburgh Running Club can bring a children’s fun run to the town. Registration will take place from 9am at the Community centre. The event is open to all school children with different distances for each classes. After the run the participants will be invited up to the town centre and presented with a medal sponsored by Fraserburgh Vintage Car Rally.”

Fraserburgh Super Saturdays will also feature a free climbing wall and a multi sports arena where youngsters will be encouraged to join in a game of football or basketball. Local instructor Fiona Stott will also be doing a boogie bounce demonstration on the day and DH Fitness will also be carrying out a demonstration for the crowds to watch. Leona added: “As well as the sporting attractions we also have two new up and coming bands performing – Segregated Elephant and Fair Trickit. The Fraserburgh 2021 Project stall will also feature a demonstration by a local sash and case joiner who is carrying out work on the town centre and Fraserburgh Sea Cadets are bring along a sailing boat. The town’s Rotary Club will also be promoting local produce in the free Tasting gazebo with food kindly donated by The Fish Plaice, Tesco, Websters Bakery, Bruce of the Broch, McIntosh the Butcher and Asda. Bobs Buddies are also coming along with a display of birds, so there will be lots to see and do throughout the day.

"We have a wealth of stallholders coming along in July including many new faces selling fresh and local produce, crafts, beauty products, hot and cold food and home and garden ware. Unfortunately due to the poor weather last month we were unable to carry out our questionnaire so our volunteers will be out and about doing that too so make sure and take 2 minutes out of your day as you could be in with a chance of winning a night stay for 4 people at the new pods based at Aden.”

Local shops and businesses will also be encouraging locals and visitors to shop in the town centre by offering discounts and special offers throughout the day.

Fraserburgh Super Saturdays will be held in Saltoun Square and Broad Street from 10am until 3.30pm. For more information about the event or to become a volunteer email Fraserburgh.super.saturdays@gmail.com or visit the facebook page.
