VISITORS to Fraserburgh are being invited to take a nostalgic trip down memory lane at Super Saturdays next month.

Super Saturdays next event will take place on August 12th and the theme for the community-led project is Back to the Future.

Locals and visitors will be provided with an opportunity to wallow in nostalgia during the day with historical exhibitions, photo displays, live music, demonstrations and vintage vehicle displays.

Super Saturdays coordinator, Leona Findlay explained: “Fraserburgh has such a rich heritage and is steeped in nostalgia that it was an obvious theme for a Super Saturdays event. Fraserburgh Heritage Society has come on board with us this month and will be bringing along a collection of heritage memorabilia, boats and photos which will be of interest to a lot of people. They have teamed up with the 2021 Regeneration Project and will also be doing a quiz around the town.”

This month the 2021 Regeneration Project will be located inside the door of the Town House and Walkers, the contractors for the town centre project, will be carrying out a demonstration of sash and case window making and repair as well as having plans of the interior of the building on display too.

Visitors will also have an opportunity to look at some vintage tractors, cars and motorbikes which will be on display at the Leisure Centre carpark from 10am until 12noon.

The coordinator added: “As always we have a fun-filled day in store for youngsters with the return of the popular bike track and obstacle course which will be free to everyone. To tie in with the Back to the future theme we have also invited Fizzy’s Funtastic Parties along to Super Saturdays and she will be entertaining the crowds with a puppet show, storytelling whaling songs and more.  There will also be fun activities at the kids shack as well as face painting on the day.”

Super Saturdays will also feature the tasting gazebo with free food samples from local food producers, a boogie bounce demonstration as well as a wealth of stallholders selling locally made produce, gift ideas, home ware, skincare products, tasty treats and much more.

“I hope Super Saturdays reminds people to think about what is on their door step before they jump in their car to the supermarket or shop online. Buying locally supports local businesses as well as being some of the freshest, best food they will eat. Shopping locally has huge benefits for town centres and is what makes towns like Fraserburgh thrive. Not only that, Super Saturdays is a great days out for all the family, young and old, and encourages people to get out and talk to people. Our community-led event has a great, relaxed vibe about it and visitors enjoy the day bumping into people they may not have seen in a while, buying some great products, visiting shops they may not normally shop in and treating their kids to fun activities which don’t break the bank,” said Leona.

Super Saturdays is an Aberdeenshire Council funded project and will be held on August 12th from 10am until 3.30pm at Saltoun Square and Broad Street.
