Food is the theme of this Saturday's Fraserburgh Super Saturdays event

Food lovers will be in for a treat at Fraserburgh Super Saturdays this weekend as the community-led event celebrates the best that Scotland’s vibrant larder has to offer.

To coincide with Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight, Super Saturdays will be supporting and promoting local produce and the people who grow, make, cook and sell it.

Super Saturdays coordinator Leona Findlay explained: “We have a fantastic event lined up to round off our Summer of Super Saturdays. Our theme for September is Food and Drink and we will be showcasing the wonderful larder that this area has to offer. Super Saturdays aims to remind people to think about what is on their door step before they jump in their car to the supermarket or shop online. Shopping locally supports our communities, increases local jobs and helps the environment as well as selling some of the finest and freshest produce on offer. Broad Street and Saltoun Square will be lined with stalls selling hot and cold food and drinks, crafts, gift ideas and local produce.”

Shops and businesses in the town will also be involved in the day and will be offering customers fantasic deals and offers during the event.

“We have a fantastic programme lined up for visitors in September including a cooking demonstration by local man and head chef at Saplinbrae Hotel and Lodges, Chris Ritchie. Chris will be using the finest local ingredients to create a culinary delight which will be available for visitors to sample. The day will also feature a pizza making workshop with Tesco and a gin experience in Cheers Bar with Gin expert and author of This is Gin, Karin McGivern,” Leona added.

Fraserburgh Rotary Club will be cooking up a storm in the Tasting Gazebo offering free samples of local food and produce from butchers, bakers and shops and local businesses will be offering special deals and discounts in store too.

Fraserburgh singing duo Killer Heels will be kicking off the day at 10am followed by a skipping performance by Skip to the Beat at 11am. The day will also feature performances by Where’s the Female Zombies and Broch Drama Group. Bobs Buddies will also be attending Super Saturdays with a collection of owls and birds.

Leona added: “As well as an action packed day for the adults we also have a host of fun in store for youngsters too. We are delighted to welcome Theatre Modo along to Super Saturdays this month to perform Blue Toon Pickerings, an action packed juggling routine and fire and water show. Theatre Modo will also be offering youngsters the chance to try their hand at circus skills.

“Budding young scientists will be delighted to hear that Aberdeen Science Centre (formerly Satrosphere) will also be coming along to Super Saturdays and inviting visitors to try some exciting science experiments. It’s going to be a fun, food filled day on September 9th that locals and visitors won’t want to miss,”said Leona.

The community-led event has been funded by Aberdeenshire Council since 2013 with the aim being to entice shoppers back into the town centre to ensure that it not only survives but thrives.
Super Saturdays will take place at Saltoun Square and Broad Street from 10 until 3.30pm.
